  1. Calculate the cost per item or per standard unit for each offer.
  2. Compare like with like.
  3. Account for whole packs when the required quantity cannot be split.

  1. The unit prices are 85.0p and 80.0p, so 10 batteries for £8.00 is better value.

A team needs at least 45 pens. Pack A contains 10 pens for £7.50; Pack B contains 16 for £11.20. Using only one pack type, which option gives the lower total cost?

  1. Whole packs are required.
  2. Pack A costs 5 × £7.50 = £37.50.
  3. Pack B costs 3 × £11.20 = £33.60.
