2 · THE METHOD

Follow these steps

  1. Find the numerical change.
  2. Divide by the original value.
  3. Multiply by 100 and state whether it is an increase or decrease.

  1. Convert 60/80 and 24/40 to percentages.
  2. Subtract the second percentage from the first.
  3. Therefore the answer is 15 percentage points.

Example 2

A bicycle costs £240.00. Its price increases by 10%. What is the new price?

  1. Find 10% of £240.00.
  2. Add the increase to the original price.
  3. Therefore the answer is £264.00.
