Follow these steps

  1. Write the start time and duration clearly.
  2. Count to the next whole hour, then add the remaining minutes.
  3. Use 24-hour notation where the context requires it.

Example 1

A workshop starts at 9:35 and lasts 63 minutes. When does it end?

  1. Count 25 minutes to the next hour, then add the remaining minutes.
  2. The end time is 10:38.
Answer: 10:38
Example 2

A coach leaves at 10:25. It travels for 56 minutes, stops for 10 minutes and travels for 59 more minutes. The pupils then spend 32 minutes at the venue. At what time does the activity finish?

  1. The journey takes 56 + 10 + 59 = 125 minutes and ends at 12:30.
  2. Adding 32 minutes gives 13:02.
