Multiply fractions by multiplying corresponding parts, then simplify.

Example 1

Find half of 2/5. Give your answer as a fraction.

  1. Half of two 5ths is one 5th: 1/5.
Answer: 1/5
Example 2

1/10 of a garden is planted. 9/10 of the planted part contains herbs. What fraction of the whole garden contains herbs?

  1. The second fraction applies to the planted part, so multiply: 1/10 × 9/10 = 9/100 = 9/100.
Answer: 9/100
